Keep seeing TC posts with crazy numbers/hard negotiations and wonder if everyone is joining the rat race at the expense of sacrificing work life balance. Also, what realistic $$$ amount is the junta’s end goal net worth wise?

    30/M/SF/400k+/1.2m/$50.

My goal is not money at all. It’s nice to have but I never put tc as number 1 priority. I just want to work on interesting stuff with high impact on the world. Part of the nw is from founding a company in school and it got acquired. Also have investments that had 400% returns in the past 3 years.

If you don’t call a scale of millions of people that depend on a system to get to different places safely, millions that drive strangers in their car to feed their families or as a side gig is not making an impact you are living in a cave.
State your facts, I’m all ears.

Transportation infrastructure is just that. Infrastructure. Airline companies transport people to, and no one considers their SDEs highly impactful. The fact that Uber combines transportation with a gig-economy of a glorified cabbie isn’t that impressive IMO.

One more thing I wanted to add. you cannot understand lifestyle creep until you have gone through it :-) I could not have imagined owning the house I do now. Even though we are not the most flashy people, our definition of flashy has changed. I know it's "first world problem".

Yup, used to stay with room mates sharing a bed room, only had to pay 500 for rent a month, and limit dining out to 10 dollars. Now have a 3br but only using one of it, and 30+ per person meal is standard affair. A lot of wasted money compared to the past.

Definitely good. You have your entire career in front of you. Invest your money in real estate and you should be able to get to your 5M$ goal within 10 years! Goodluck

Only through equity from Start up going IPO or getting bought...Investing may not bring in that much assuming you only have about 200k to invest

Definitely invest. I prefer real estate over stocks. Too easy to lose money in stocks and you have 4-1 leverage long term in real estate. It's true it may not make you $1M but it's better than nothing.
