I am trying to quit smoking but everytime I tried I failed. In 2019 itself I have tried to quit 3 times but failed. I stop for a week but then the craving begins and I start again. I have no will power. Any help here will be appreciated.
Read 'the power of habit' by Charles Duhigg. I promise it will help you. It has an exclusive example of how smokers form a habit and how to reprogram your brain to get rid of that habit.
Ok Will try this book
+1 for The Power of Habit, helped me reshape a lot of habits
Try reading the easy way by Allen Carr
Look at pictures of small diseased penis' and come to the conclusion that they look like what you've been putting in your mouth all these years. You are not a smoker, you just have small diseased penis compulsive disorder. The idea here is to form a negative association which can help in the short term. Like let's say you gut sickly drunk on wine and for a month or two just the smell of wine turns your stomach.
First, congrats on being persistent. I read a statistic many years ago when I was trying to quit that it takes the average person 8 attempts before quitting sticks. So don’t give up! I had to change my routine and also it helps if you are not around other smokers. You can also talk to your doctor - some medications have a side effects of making smoking really unappealing. Not sure if this is something they can prescribe for but it’s worth asking.
I am always surrounded by smokers..another reason why I haven’t been able to quit
Yeah that’s really hard. If you need to prioritize quitting you probably need to find other people to live with, hang out with during work breaks or outside of work. I don’t know how possible that is for you. You should also try talking to them and asking if they would be willing to support you by not taking smoke breaks together, no smoking indoors, doing activities where they don’t smoke, stepping away from the social activity to smoke, etc. You could also potentially switch to a vaporizer and step down off nicotine to a cartridge with plain water in it to be able to have something in your hand/mouth. I didn’t go that route so do your research.
Why do you want to quit?
(I’m not asking in a facetious way. If you are able to identify and connect with your why for doing something you’re more likely to be successful)
Have never smoked, but don’t nicotine patches help ?
The patches can help with cravings but smoking is a pretty complex habit with enough other factors involved that just addressing one aspect doesn’t help enough.
Move to JUUL. It helped me.
I would work with a doctor when you start quitting. They can help you cope with the cravings.
Just don’t go to the store and buy them. It’s the same thing with losing weight: you have to make a conscious decision to buy garbage food. Just don’t do it. Takes a lot of willpower, but it’s possible.
