I recently began my first “real” job out of college, and it has been by far my worst work experience. I work at a small IT company, directly under the CEO who is contantly critical, micro manager and known throughout the office as hard to work with. Two weeks into the role I knew that it was not the work i wanted to be doing, and the CEO was not going to be an easy person for me to work with. There was an incident on Friday in a 1:1 meeting where my job was threatened and I was blamed for losing a late stage candidate. I was accused of being too timid, while the reason the candidate withdrew was because we were below his salary range. I am the only recruiter/HR in the company so any hiring issues fall on me, understandably. However, with our company’s poor glassdoor reputation and low salary range offerings, recruiting has proven difficult- i also have never been in a role where I am the only recruiter, in my college internships i had worked under a director of recruitment or at least had another person on my team. I took the position under the preface that the role was a recruiting/HR hybrid, however all i have done in the first 2 months is menial recruiting tasks. i received no real training and was expected to hit the ground running, which i have done my best at, and have had several successes. i feel good about my progress for only being at the company two months, but it is clear that the CEO does not. there has not been one day when i have felt like ive enjoyed what ive been doing. i have no “team” and feel very alone at work. Friday’s conversation really made me feel unappreciated and took any pride i had in the work i have been doing at the company. I feel pressured to stay at my first job for at least 1 year, but my gut is telling me to get out now and find something else. Any advice on my situation or how to go about quitting? I don’t want to be unprofessional and not give a two week notice, but after Friday I am very uncomfortable and will be even more so after giving my notice. Should I keep this job on my resume and list it as “Temp” or just leave it off altogether?
Look out. List job as Temp (or leave it out altogether, 2 months isn't a big deal) and leave. You absolutely do not have to and should not stay in such an environment. You've seen the CEO and he will not change.
Agreed! I did the same thing when I first graduated from College. I had a awful 6 month stint with an organization and quit because I couldn’t work there anymore and left it out of my Resume. When asked why the gap? I explained I took this time to determine the next step in my career.
Yes, I agree. Thanks for the advice. This environment is pouring into my personal life and relationships and it’s become unhealthy.
Your first job out of college should index highly on training and learning. This job is not it. Start looking immediately and don’t look back
You’re absolutely right. Thank you
Don’t think twice. Get out.
You already know this job isn’t for you. Stop wasting time.
Are you a woman?
What difference does it make?
Not that it makes a difference, but no I’m a man
Were you able to have an open and honest conversation wherein your manager provided specific examples backing up their “evaluation” of your performance? Either way, not an acceptable way in which to interact with you. Get in touch with recruiting agencies and keep a look out for positions now. It’s not worth staying at your current org when there are other orgs that will value your contributions and provide you with the tools and feedback that you need to succeed in your role. There is no requirement to keep the job on your resume - you can list as Temp or keep off altogether. However, sometimes if you list a role as “Temp” you may be asked for a reference/recommendation (likely from your manager). If you can get a recommendation from someone who has worked closely with you throughout the past couple of months, I would recommend you do that before giving notice. Good luck!!

How is the job market for senior roles ?
If you can find another job, don’t even think twice. Just quit and work at a place that makes you happy.
Thank you, I think you’re right.
