Turns out I don't want to work in the industry. I want to take a break from working. How can I invest 200k for 1 year and make sure I get some income while I figure out next thing for me. Background I have worked really hard to be where I am right now. Straight A student. Hall of famer. 6 digit job out of university. While I was hustling for all this, I missed out on making any romantic progress. Haven't kissed a girl yet and pretty sure nobody has a crush on me. Also, I've started overthinking and started to hate my face too. I know this is a downward spiral and I just need 1-2 female friends to make me feel good about myself. I need to get out of Bay area since it's impossible to make female friends here. Visa issues is a different story. Still, I've managed to save over 200k and planning to buy an apartment in my home country. Let's say I buy the apartment in 6-12 months, where should I invest the money to get good returns so that I quit the job and go somewhere soul searching? Plans include travelling to home country and going on random trips with travel agencies, taking hobby classes, etc. I know about stocks, index funds and putting it all on black so save that for some other post. TC: 200k Age: early 20s
Truth is, outside of what you listed as options, there’s no realistic investment that will pay for one year of expenses with $200k upfront.
Man your priority should be kissing a girl. 200k and not yet have kissed a girl!
Buy property and rent
All in black. Do it a couple times. 🤡
Reading comprehension not your forte huh?
You miss the step to do it a couple more times!
I feel you OP, early 20s as well and worked also really hard to get where I am today (ironically the same company). I met my first girlfriend last year on Bumble when I was close to graduating and our 1 year anniversary is coming up :-). Wasn't a KV but a virgin nonetheless. Don't give up hope!
I feel you’d be better off finding wlb in NYC with more female ratio there for example and actually work on personal life. Why quit everything?
Have considered it. Quitting for year maybe. If i don't work on relationships, I fear being lonely for the rest of my life.
Working on relationships is like working on becoming happier. You don’t want to work on it directly — it’s more like you do a bunch of other things and as a side effect you end up in a relationship/happier. Work on becoming the sort of person that your ideal girl would want to date: likely a mix of a good support network/friends, a job (!!), confidence and comfort with your strengths and limitations, your own interests and hobbies.
You should invest in yourself. I mean educating yourself on investing, finance. That’s, imo, the best way to avoid being stupid and scammed. We’ve been trained in tech, not finance. So admit to yourself that you’re still a noob in investing. It’s easy to scam newbies and sheeps. That’s why there are so many courses on “Do X to get 6-figure salary in Tech companies”. Same ideas can be applied to investing strategies. I am not rich yet. I just want to make sure I don’t lose money by being too naive. Just my 2 cents

Mr money mustache, /r/personalfonance and /r/financialindependence on Reddit are good starting points that are free
Hang out more at clubs or better yet hire an escort. Sounds like you just need to get laid.
30-40% of my friends in the bay area are female. If you're in a tech role and only hanging out in the eng department, that might be the issue. Dating in bay area is hard, get to SF and the numbers get way better than other areas. But if you get a lot of female friends and you're a decent guy, they'll jump at the chance to set you up on a date. So many want to be matchmakers.
+1 to women wanting to be matchmakers And if you have friends that are women that’s a huge plus in terms of credibility for prospective gfs. It proves you can talk to a woman like a human being well enough for them to be your friend (I know, such a high bar).
If you know about stocks, index funds, and options, then what are you hoping to hear from blind?
I'm hoping to hear other ways to invest.
You could try the wheel or calendar spreads. But if your target symbol plummets, your life could be ruined 🙂
