PO looking to break into PM, but not sure where to look. FAANG or startup to get the title?

I’m currently a Product Owner at Discover, looking to break into PM at a tech company but it’s been rough.

Buckle down and try for FAANG/recent IPO startup or pursue series A/B startup to get the PM title on my resume?

3.5 YOE (2 with PO title), TC 135k, Chicago

    I just switched from SWE to Product. Even though I was doing a lot of product stuff before, I found that recruiters care about PM title a lot. That being said, a P.O. title should be easier for you to help get a PM job at a good company, if you have the skills.
    FAANG will obviously be harder since you’re competing with folks who have PM title and experience, but I don’t believe you need to go super low on your salary and join a measly startup to get the PM title.
    How many jobs have you applied to? Is your Resume PM focused?

      My resume is PM focused (I think). My title is PO but my job is effectively PM so I do feel I have the skills to go right to PM not APM…but agree not having the title is making it tough. I am just starting applications, have applied to prob 6-8 roles. Interviews at 2 fintech startups, waiting on offer from 1, everywhere more established has screened the resume even with referrals.

      Yeah OP, I’m totally onboard that you have the skills and I don’t think you need an APM position either. You actually have a good interview response rate so I’d keep applying if I were in your position! Other than that, unfortunately, I don’t have any other suggestions.
