I think internal promos should be more closely correlated to external promos. As of right now, almost everyone above the median skill in a specific level is underlevelled and can get an L+1 offer elsewhere. At Google specifically, a single SEE rating tells you that you're L+1 capable, but often times 2+ SEE ratings are required to get the promo. I hope we see a trend in prioritizing internal talent vs being obsessed with unproven new hires and I think Amazon is taking the right step here for once

Why the hate against Amazon? Don't the employees deserve promotions?

They’re destroying Amazon with this garbage. Please don’t destroy other companies. Beth is the worst HR VP of the fortune 2000.

Amazon promoting more is a good thing. Their promos have been the stingiest and most absurdly difficult and opaque in the industry for far too long. Don’t be jealous it just opens the door for others.
