How is covid effecting the game industry? Good or bad time to join?

    Too early to say. Increase in players, too early to say that will sustain, much less increase revenue.

    • Game dev salaries in general are lower than the rest of tech. There are a lot of people who want to work on games, so that drives down salaries a bit.

      Are you willing to get paid a little bit less and work a little bit harder in order to work on something you actually enjoy and care about?

      It’s definitely worth the tradeoff for me, but it’s not for everyone.

      I see, game dev seems super fun, it probably feels good to see people genuinely enjoying a product that you built, the salary decrease + workload increase seems bothersome to me, I been practicing it a bit in my spare time ill see where it goes.

      Also maybe this coronavirus situation might improve the game industry for developers in the long term a lil more

    Video games have fared well in crises. Their one of the winners of this situation. Let’s see if the momentum continues long after the crisis. In terms of jobs, it’s an irreversible, long term growing trend.

    Working from home is a tad slower than in office but not bad. If anything I hope it opens the possibility more to employees down the line instead if the usual in office only work. I get it we're under NDA but WFH should be an option when needed.

    Gamers are typically low income males .. they are the first ones to be affected due to recession .. top line & bottom line will get affected .. any consumer oriented company will be affected due to job losses ..

      Hah, true. When I was biggest into gaming I was in high school, relatively broke, and had to save or wait for christmas/birthday to get new games.

      Now 10 years later I can get a new console or tv just because I want to but rarely do because it doesn’t interest me as much and my money has better uses.
