Currently a SDE-2(L5) in Bangalore. Have an option of moving to AWS team in Seattle. Also, have an L4 offer from Google for search team in Bangalore. I am interested in London location but only Android framework teams have openings there.

How is the work of Android teams in Google? Is it a wise decision to move from Search to Android for a good location(Bangalore->London)?

Edit 1: I understand Seattle may pay more than London but I feel I can relocate to US Later on too.

Edit 2: Would be glad if anyone can comment on the quality of work in Android org

Worst thing about Android is the yearly release cycle, which results in intense crunching since missing deadlines may mean your project is straight-up cancelled (if it relies on changing/adding APIs).

The crunching part is also true to a lesser degree for teams that synchronize their releases with Android or ship major feature bundles for I/O.

In my experience the added stress isn't worth it if you value WLB, but you can also move up quickly if your project ends up being impactful. Just make sure you really believe in the product itself before joining these teams.

  • Amazon Seattle easily. US >> UK in terms of pay and opportunity. If you want to join another US company later, here's the place to be.

It has to be L1-A individual visa in order to get the green card with in a year eligibility for this type of visa - you have to be in the manager or equivalent role and you should have people reporting to you. Visa type L1-A blanket doesn’t not require you to be in the manager role but I don’t think you’ll get green card in 1 year for L1-A Blanket vida type.

If you are planning to move to US ask which visa type it is going to be L1-B or L1-A individual or L1-A Blanket. If it is anything other than L1-A individual make sure you have a Plan B which is searching for a employer once you are in US who can file a H1-B which gives you the liberty to change the companies in USA.
