T-Mobile quietly laying off people...
I have to hear about layoffs across lots of internal teams through the grapevine.
It comes up by accident, like someone applying for an opening on a team and when asked why, it is due to being laid off and have a little bit of time to find new internal position before their last day.
Then we hear about it through rumors like 10% of Network Technology being laid off, T-Mobile For Business getting layoffs, Marketing getting layoffs.
Reasons seem to include that the merger agreement timeline is expiring and now will not be in violation for layoffs like they would have been the last 2 years (we won't get rid of anyone!)
I think the company probably wanted more antivaxx layoffs as well, maybe they did not get as many as anticipated?
The return to office plans shifted to a more hardcore approach by throwing out labels like flexible resident, etc. and setting hard number of days you can be in or out based on level (probably to try and get more people to quit/move on so layoff numbers do not look high).
It just sucks that it is like some special operation kept as quiet as possible during "Our Best Quarter Ever!!!".
There may be reasons to reduce staff as more teams and systems compressed over the last 2 years post merger, but there seems to be no honesty and openness which would give assurances to the approach being taken. The culture has changed so much since 2018 and I think it is due to the politics and how everything is done in the shadows.

I was a part of the 90-100 in marketing a few weeks ago.
It's stressful but I'm also so glad that it's forcing me to go somewhere else. I really have felt miserable the last few years. The low morale creates a terrible environment to work.
What really gets me is the same BS mentioned here. If you are going to become a company that touts transparency- stop lying. They are still on a high horse about values and a great company - reality is the great culture has tanked. And it's definitely not going to be RTO for the win. Instead:
How about they stop laying off well-admired leaders?
How about diversifying the upper ranks?
How about thinking twice before laying off women in leadership since it's lacking so badly?
How about a one time 7-9% increase for all as a thank you for record sales? (Btw- our budget for those with a community engagement title was cut from 3% and we were given mostly 1-2% prior to being laid off which decreased our packages.)
How about ending the constant reorganizations every three months?

I'm reaching the point of acceptance now, and even some relief. But I still find it sad. I enjoyed my time there prior to merger and I cared for my peers. I expected better. I don't know how they expect to sustain winning when the company is internally bleeding out all its talent and morale.
Either way, I’m with you that it’s disappointing. The company has so much potential and had such a strong culture but it’s all going down the drain.
