RFE for H1B transfer to Google. What to do?

Oct 10, 2019 27 Comments

Got RFE today for my H1B transfer to Google. The resolution process can take months and I do not want to stay at my current company anymore. My manager knows about my Google offer and it would be awkward if I stay. That not my main concern, I don't see any meaningful growth at the current position and I have already stayed for a very long time at the company. I want a change.

Don't know the reason for RFE yet. I have CS undergrad from India and MS in CS from US. What should I do?

BTW in the worst case H1B is rejected, I am okay to relocate to other locations in Google, hoping such an arrangement can be worked out.

PS. I interviewed at Google in early August, and still in limbo. Super frustrated by partly slow process of Google and slow immigration process. Just wanted to vent.

Also pardon my typo in the poll options, cannot edit that once posted.

Maybe you should cross the border and enter through a caravan. You will then get a red carpet welcome from the Dems. 😂

One serious note, don’t let fucked up US legal immigration bother your career. Go to Google, anyways you don’t want to stay at LinkedIn and hence it does not make sense to stay at LinkedIn even in the case where H1b gets rejected.

Thanks. That's what I am thinking too. Worst case I will move to another country in Google.

Why would you tell your manager before you were done with visa?

Because then I was thinking I would join on receipt. But later changed my mind and decided to wait for approval.

Manager is supportive as in not harassing me or putting any kind of pressure. I guess I want to leave but wanted to see what the blind community thinks.

Can you ask your G HM what is the path fwd if your visa gets rejected? Can they move to a diff country? It's always good to be prepared for worst case scenario.

RFEs are the new norm. 60% of the H1B case gets them.
