Assembly language question during interview?

It was a general software engineer interview. During one of the algorithm/coding round, there was 5 minutes or so left. I was asked about assembly language questions, you know JUMP, ADD. It was not difficult. I'm just curious why? I didn't put anything related to assembly language on my resume. I used C++ during the interview. Maybe it's a problem solving test?
