Curious what people think about the 5.4bill acquisition. Is it really going to help Google? #Google #Microsoft #cybersecurity #mandiant
I don't really get it. What does this do for GCP?.... What are they getting that they couldn't have gotten with a partnership?
The acquisition signals that GCP’s security framework was weak and they had to acquire a company to better their security posture.
I guess, but CrowdStrike is the belle of the ball in that XDR market.
This has nothing to do with the internal security posture at Google Cloud. The reasoning is more along the lines that google wants to contribute more to the global security landscape and don't have the internal talent/customer base/wealth of knowledge/reputation that Mandiant has built. DWwv18, Mandiant isn't an XDR and we are platform agnostic.
Mandiant is more of a consulting company. Seems like a strange fit for a product focused organization like GCP. Perhaps GCP is trying to grow their professional services offering?
Think about it.. 5.4 billion to grow your pro serve? No way . It's more about the book of business than the tech. May be IP.
To me this sounds like a shitty move. Over all Google is going with buy vs. build attitude. When was the last time mandiant innovated? Do they even have any cloud revenue ?. I don't know what Google leaders saw in this company for it to be second largest acquisition ever in Google history, think about it! I'm sickened with this news!
I guess that explains why GCP isn't doing well with their latest GTM strategy.
I think TK is not a good engineer, he needs a trusted technical advisor. Otherwise he's going to go on a shopping spree.
The announcement specifically calls out Google GCAT. It is too early for the plebs to know the direction, but my read is Mandiant will get dropped in there. Google Cloud has been actively trying to build out their consulting services for GCP clients. In general, skilled security consultants are hard to come by and Google Cloud consulting will struggle to build out that cadre of consultants they need. I'm sure acquiring a firm was an easier move than organically growing the team. I know when I first heard Google Cloud had a consulting team, my first reaction wasn't to go apply... Were we worth 5.4B? I don't know... maybe. If more holistic coverage of a client's enterprise helps GCP close the gap on AWS market share, that could be a huge win for Google. They'll also be getting a ton of great security consultants, who are also historically very loyal and excited about joining Google. Was it good for Mandiant? Yes, all we need is a solid parent company who will let us execute investigations and give us the engineering resources to succeed. Kevin couldn't have picked a better company to absorb us.
Kevin nailed it for you guys! Just not sure if the opposite is true
How dare you! I am a special and unique snowflake!
