For folks who relocate from Google India to US , how does stock grants works, base is adjusted but are there additional grants in first year to bring compensation in line with US salaries or are you screwed for next 4 years ? Current TC - 135k USD in India
I don't know why you want to move to US even after your salary is close to 1 crore.
Are you L5?
Yes
Hey do you have other plans for this
Other plans as is ?
I see lots of queries and no answer yet for my question !!
AFAIK you keep your grant. Be it transfer from US to India or Vice versa . The refreshers will be in accordance with new location .
This means you are screwed for next 4 years if you move from India , grants at same level in India are significantly less ,so you need 4 years of grants to make up !!
Yup that's why people usually move after 2-3 years. The upside is also good since if you return you get to keep almost 3x grant.
135k USD in India and you're looking to leave?
Well that's still not the answer, for the experience part yes I want to move for few years !!
Note that you will be taxed both in India and US for the grants you received (not vested) in India, only some of these tax can be claimed
I think that is only if in a year you are in India for more than 180 days !!
Fyi , Do not listen to negative comments about why are you moving here when you have such a great tc in India etc etc , people do not realize its not super cheap in India anymore, plus they themselves will never come back no matter the salary they get. Its about the lifestyle and learning options.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
At what level / years spent in company does this become possible?
That is not the answer to my question, but at Google after 1 year you can move to US !!
Thanks for the info. I have no idea about the TC and RSUs, but was curious about the moving part.
