Hi - what do you all do once get RSU grants? I understand selling to adjust for tax is standard. What about the rest of it?

Really depends on the company doesn’t it? Obviously the guy at apple is saying hold, but I bet most startup RSUs are better off sold to at least buy some other more stable assets as long as you have a lot more RSUs

  • Keep it til you retire. Don’t sell a dime.

Treat it like cash. If you had that much amount of cash where would you want to invest.

There's no tax incentive not to SELL ALL RSUs, so might as well sell it all, and then diversity into whatever stocks you prefer (not necessarily index funds).

It's different for ESPP, though, there it does make a lot of sense to HODL.

With ESPP the discount you get is a capital gain, so, 100% at the very least hold 1 year before selling. If it's a good company, might as well never sell ESPP.

I wish Amazon would offer ESPP. Kind of not fair that Jeff gets the special tax treatment option, but mere mortals have to pay full tax on everything.
