Trying to figure out if it makes sense or is even possible to be overemployed and cleared (TS/SCI)?
I see it happening with friends at defense contractors but no idea how feasible it might be at tech companies. Specifically targeting the MOAG - Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Google (think cleared cloud) or other tech companies.
Or is it more lucrative to just dump cleared work?

I think itโs possible to be overemployed with one defense and one commercial, but two defense wouldnโt work as job 2 would look you up in JPAS/DISS and see youโre already under J1.
Only a tiny fraction of employees at those companies can make more than the government will reimburse (even if they're not personally on cost+ contracts, because so many of their peers ARE on those contracts, plus in theory they may be bid on cost+ basis in the future). Of the few employees who do make more, most are in "G&A" roles like sales or senior leadership (not SWEs).
You gotta come to the 'DIU' side of the house if you want to make tech industry TC while also working on defense products/services. Companies that aren't burdened by historic business models are able to achieve much higher efficiency, deliver more value, and pay higher TC than "legacy" defense contractors (including newer companies built with the old school business model) but they have to sell in modern/innovative contract vehicles. No way the govt would agree to pay SWEs 500k unburdened (but they'll happily buy cheaper and better SKUs that were built by 500k SWEs).
