Hi Folks, I went through the interview at Google and HR has verbally said they are ready to extend me an offer. But HR is asking me to provide the expected compensation, then she will take those numbers to the comp team for approval/negotiation instead of providing me with the initial numbers. I didn't get any TC range, the only info I was able to get is base pay can start from 210K. Is this new to me, is this common practice in Google? This is for the Google Silicon team, level L6, SW role. What is the TC(& split) that I can expect from Google? Current TC: $305 YOE: 15 years #hardware #semiconductor #google #l6 #sandiego #firmware #swe #compensation #salarycomparison #googlesalary
why silicon team needs software?
Any update on the offer? Not a lot of data on embedded/firmware here.

Initial offer $209 base $309 RSU, no sign-on. 20% target bonus. The HR said this is in the lower range even before she gave me the numbers. I mentioned that I am excited about the role and team. But this is lower than I expected, frankly underwhelming. I didn't provide my expected numbers, I said will think about my desired numbers and get back early next week. This doesn't look like a good offer even for L5.
Are you sure this is L6 offer? Seems L5 to me.
What's your final offer? Or did you walk away?
Any news on the offer? Trying to get into Google Si team here in SD đ
I was able to negotiate, $235k base $891k RSUs (no sign on bonus).
OP, what numbers did you give them after they gave you initial numbers? Also did you ask for sign-in bonus?
Google negotiating is in terms of TC/per year rather than $X base, $Y RSUs. So the number I quoted was $550k, which includes base + base x 0.2 (20% annual bonus) + RSU/year. I asked for sign in bonus but I said I prefer more RSUs over sign in, so I didn't get any sign-in
Thanks for the information! So how much it is coming now TC? Also I guess it will vary year per year( at least first 4, as RSU isnât 25% equally divided every year). Sorry, if asking too any questionsâŚ. Kind of new to all this
SD base is 90% of bay area.
Levels.fyi should give you a good estimate. Ask higher than what you see there.
Saw levels.fyi but are those numbers applicable to embedded SW teams too?
Yes all SWEs should be on the same pay scale. They will try to put you at the bottom of the range if you donât have competing offers and maybe due to lower âcost of laborâ in San Diego i.e. fewer high paying companies
