A few weeks back Microsoft announced the creation of a Raleigh Hub. Google in March announced it was creating 1000 jobs in an Engineering hub located in Durham. On top of Pendo and Bandwidth moving headquarters to Raleigh.... And today Apple announced it would spend 1billion on a new campus in Raleigh (RTP) on a 100 acres it’s owned for a while. This has been rumored for years since Tim Cook is a Duke Alum. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wral.com/apple-picks-triangle-for-1-billion-campus-thousands-of-new-jobs/19646410/%3fversion=amp# #appleoffer #faang #apple #google #microsoft
What a difference a decade makes. During the last downturn, Microsoft shipped support jobs from Raleigh-Durham to India, laying off the local workers. It is a lovely area with a reasonable cost-of-living, which will be going up now with the influx of "west coasters." Hopefully the Google and Apple transplants will not vote in the same policies that have destroyed California.
For North Carolina standards, Raleigh/ Durham/ and Orange County are already quite liberal as it’s very multicultural. But definitely need to address how the metro area is planning to grow while addressing cost increases and infrastructure needs.... The locals are definitely being squeezed out of here.
I am not familiar with this matter. Could you name and explain the policies that destroyed California? Preferably the policy names so I can dig into it further. Thanks
It’s also another hub for everyone’s data center clusters on the east, similar to nova
RTP has been hot for years. Apple is just recognizing it.
You should see Atlanta
Atlanta is a different conversation... Atlanta has already arrived as I consider it on the same level as DC, Seattle, Dallas, Minneapolis While the Raleigh/ Austin/ Nashville/ Portland type cities are hitting their strides.
I wish. Turns out it is just getting started, we have Microsoft and Google moving in this year
One of my alum is located in RTP, it's lovely place when compared to Austin.
Right beside Cisco and NetApp at the bottom of RTP. https://goo.gl/maps/SzsDrSvgj32mPyS28
Opposite of Cisco. On the other side of 540. Davis Drive and Little drive (Morrisville)
Is winter bad in north carolina ?
Western part of the state definitely gets winter (there's even ski resorts!). But yeah RTP area winters are extremely mild and usually more rain than snow.
Guys let's buy in Raleigh!
Real estate is still cheap, avg price $300k. City is rated in the top5 for housing value. https://www.google.com/amp/s/finance.yahoo.com/amphtml/news/barbara-corcoran-homebuyers-depressed-good-reason-115631631.html
This is not true since last year or so at least in the rtp and surrounding area(cary, apex, holly springs, north raleigh, wake forest). Real estate prices have gone through the roof with multiple bids on most houses. I was speaking with a real estate agent and she had a 700k house with about 70 offers!!! I do love though apple google and other tech companies investing here. It's a great area!
$700k for a 4,000 sqft home is not crazy. And sure you are talking about Cary/ Apex and the rest of little India but you can still get sub $175sqft in Wake forest/ Garner/ Durham/ Pittsboro. Problem is everyone is trying to live in Cary and Apex with all their extended families and grandparents.... seriously it’s like 10 people per household
