What's to explain? They are better built, have fewer limitations, are more fun to drive. Shouldn't that be enough? Tesla is a great commuter car but isn't roadtrip or race friendly like a 911.

How many passengers? How much gear? If you have no kids, get a model S, a model X if you have kids and hear. Range anxiety is overstated. The state line supercharger is only 3 miles from most resorts. You wouldn’t need to stop to supercharge if you start from the Bay Area till you get there.

All the idiots in this thread: it’s a free country. 80 is not dangerous on some stretches of the road and the speed limits are arbitrarily ridiculous. Folks can use their own judgement to decide what’s safe for them. The limits and sign posts are for the driver’s guidance and judgement. You don’t need to virtue or shame them into compliance with arbitrary rule codes.

It's funny people spend a bomb on Tesla but still are scared to take it on long drives. For this reason alone I think Tesla's price point needs to come down.

Wonderful reasoning. You are too smart for planet earth. Perhaps find a new planet to call it your home.

100 means 100KWh. Going to LA is not an issue anymore except for a couple days during holidays.

These days there only long range and performance model. The old number convention is gone. We usually only commute during long weekends. Will the super chargers be crowed during those days?

Nice timing, long range + just went live for S/X. X got a boost to 351mi.
I've got a LR M3, 315 miles already outlasts my need to stop for a bathroom break. For Tahoe, I run into the bathroom once while charging and come back out and leave immediately and make it to trukee just fine. If you can hold it that long, the new X i'd expect could go the whole way without stopping - depending on load obviously.

Coming back to south bay even the LR model 3 won't need to recharge even once given all that downhill regen.

I have a 3 and I commute every day in mostly plain terrain. Mileage is pretty on par with the nominal value, but going up hills spends significantly more energy.

You can wait for cyber truck ... 79k option offer 500 miles per charge !! Longer than almost all cars ... I have a model 3, and it is really worth it.

I went to monterey for the longest. It was great, free charging at hotel. We have another car (suv) for carrying skis, luggage. Problem is not range but space. we need space for long trip. I wanted to use go to santa barbara, but I brought bikes ... I am waiting for cybertruck ... Otherwise, still need a gas suv

  • I was in this same confusion and didn’t want to be worried about one more thing. I went with a fully loaded X5. Unless you are a fan of Tesla, the price doesn’t make sense - you can buy an X5/Q7/XC90 and spend the rest of the money on yourselves

Why X5 over GLE? I am gravitating towards GLE over X5 in non tesla bucket.
      Feb 13
    • The current GLE is better than X5 - I agree. I got my X5 in 2017. Go for the GLE with 22” wheels. It looks badass!!

Depending on the Model, you will need 1 or 2, 30-40 mins charge to get to LA.

Most of SuperChargers are in good locations, with food/coffee/bathrooms so its super easy.

Love the comfort of Autopilot on these long drives

How is it to do with a baby? Will driving at 60 mph be tiring?
      Feb 13
    • Pinterest buttwhy?
If you have a baby you’d need to stop a bunch of time nonetheless and that’s when can charge your car simultaneously.
