At hotels I like to tip the maid like $5 a night. But I usually don’t have the right cash. Mail out business cards with QR code’s for the housekeeper to leave in the room and do a tip via the app with CC, PayPal, Venmo. Charge $1-2 service fee to the hotel guest on top of the tip. Beyond the poll, what am I missing here? Would it work?
If you say awful, pls tell me why!
Because I am stealing your idea
Reverse your idea. Pre-programmable QR code cards that are left by guests. Instructions on the back for the housekeeper to redeem cash into whatever bank/fintech product they use.
You tip in hotels?
I usually leave a 5 spot for the maid for a night.
I don’t even want the maid coming into my room if I’m only there a few nights.
Crypto payments can be used. The use case can be expanded to small loans under $100
Great idea 💡 add crypto as well
TipYo is a company that is trying to do it but they’ve been around for 2 years and barely have an app.
No reputable hotel chain would want their housekeeping staff to leave these, if they did they would implement their own system
Or whitelabel ours?
Why whitelabel? They already are setup to bill their customers in the room/express checkout, adding tip capabilities is trivial
Highly seems you are promoting more tipping culture at hotels, which more people have started to hate anyways with restaurants. Why don’t you provide a room booking startup and end of the trip you can update how much of the fee should go to maids
There is no defensibility to the idea. You could have moderate success, but anything more would invite competitors and a race to the bottom.
Too easy to implement?
Venmo/PayPal/FB/Square/Zelle any of these guys would be more than happy to offer QR prints for absolutely free and no service charge because it would be great publicity
Yes. This could be the genesis of a housekeeper providing diversified services - if you know what I mean.
Heyyyyyoooo!
That's how blind helps make world better! You just decriminalyzed "services" and made them taxable. Do it, it will fly
How big is your market? Seems very niche and might struggle with adoption.
How do you figure? A bazillion people stay at hotels. 30% leave tips for the maid.
30%? It’s less than 5% except outside of the places where you are tipping for a service, e.g. laundry, shoe shine, having a companion delivered, etc.
Couldn’t the housekeeper just leave their Venmo/cash app user name and that would basically be the end of your startup?
Ppl like things that are well printed and look official?
Then how would OP make money?
