Is Microsoft good for my resume?

Mar 24, 2021 26 Comments

I’ve always worked at startups and have had recruiters contact me constantly. I joined Microsoft 1 year ago and now I rarely receive contact from recruiters. Before I joined, my view of Microsoft was that it was an antiquated boomer company. Does my initial bias mirror that of the general public?

It's more likely your resume, Microsoft is a great brand to have on your resume.

That being said, yes it is also an antiquated boomer company.

I joined Msft right out of college about a year and half ago. I get recruiting in-mails from all over the place including Google, Tesla, Amazon on LinkedIn and emails quite often. And yes, Msft is still majority boomers, but the demographic is changing rapidly.

  • Fang contact many times but earlier(before Microsoft)I was getting calls from uber, snap, pure storage, nutanix and many other companies. Now no one contact. Not sure if it is Bay vs Seattle or Microsoft. I keep getting in mail from 3rd party recruiters but I never respond

    • That is implied not explicitly put. Everyone knows Microsoft tech stack and moreover candidates with relevant tech stack are preferred. Reasons, less time for ramp up etc.

    • I get multiple FANG/Startup recruiters ping me every week. I guarantee none are using Microsoft stack, and other responses on this thread also point to the same thing. Everyone knows Microsoft tech stack, and nobody cares about it - the focus is on what you actually worked on, business impact.
