Reason for job hopping

Job 1: 5 months Job 2: 3 months Job 3: 7 months and counting Looking to quit my current job but don’t want to be seen as a job hopper. What are some good reasons for quiting so many jobs (besides I didn’t like the work)?

You are a job hopper and recruiters won't care about it

But hiring managers will care, unless he is a bad manager or team/project is crap and bleeding like hell.

👆HM (and to some extent the panel) most likely will care

Are you a fairly recent grad and can you leave 1 and/or 2 off your resume?

Yes. Class of 2018

Oh you’re fine either way. Leave them off or keep them on. This is normal.

Same here

I worked at my first company for 11 years, the next 4 months (laid off startup bust), next 5 months (project cancelled), after a couple more 1-2 yr stints ended up at my last job for 16 yrs before Amazon. Point is, you may have some periods of hopping before you settle in for awhile and that's ok. Not every job is a good fit.

+1 and I’ve learned it’s the sign of a bad manager that calls out “job hopping”.

It’s so much fun to job hop. The days of staying at one company for 10, 20, 30 years are long gone. You continue to learn new skills, have new experiences & grow as a person when you job hop, as opposed to stagnating in one place for years. You can change entire careers if you want, too.

It is probably worth slow down and think why this is happening. Start looking for a job, be picky, it is ok to reject offers and it is ok to be rejected. Move to the next job only when you feel it is the job understanding why previous jobs did not work out.

OP graduated in 2018...

What’s wrong with 2018?

Every job hopper I interviewed would have a perfectly valid reasoning for each hop

Tyler Technologies batwomannn Jan 16, 2020

Is this sarcasm?

Observation. I gather a job hopper will have a perfect reason to leave my team a year later on exit interview

As long as you can show an increase and/or improvement in responsibility, performance, income, etc, with each job you hopped to, you’re fine. The employer is going to see that you’re an asset looking to be challenged and will recognize your value. This will also put the onus on them to be the kind of employer that makes sure you stay.
