Why would anyone choose to work for Microsoft if they have lower TC and very minimal stock refreshers compared to FANG? I see many people been in the company for long time.

you hustle in your 20s working really hard and maximize money. After 35, go to Microsoft to semi-retire and stay for 20 years

Microsoft recruits new grads heavily and people tend to stay longer. It's a sound strategy when you consider these people are probably paid less over time, but in exchange get a lot of stability (layoffs and PIPs are rare).

I'm pretty sure more people there have worked there since graduation than not. Compare to somewhere like Uber, where almost everybody has worked somewhere else, just because the company is not that old and has hired a ton over the past few years.

    • @TwVs13: so Microsoft pays less and still has high workload, low wlb? Um, Amzn is still better?

  • Most people recently hired in last 5 years make similar TC as you. MSFT TC is low compared to F and G. Not low compared to Amazon.

They are an appealing employer if one feels strongly about preserving the environment. They have promised to be carbon negative by 2030. (I believe they are the only major tech company with such a commitment?). YMMV on how much that commitment is worth and if it helps offset TC differences.

Beyond that, they do have better benefits than companies like Amazon. I think most comparisons on blind have that worth $20k alone?
