I recently joined FB after working on Azure in Microsoft for almost 3 years. I was working on really cool tech there. I'm preallocated with a team in FB which uses React and Hack(php) of which I have no clue as I have coded in C++ and C# for all my life. Also never done Web/Mobile development in career. I'm in Bootcamp 2nd week and already feeling the pressure as the people around me are quite fast and efficient in doing most of the bootcamp tasks. Now I can either take some time to ramp up on the React and php framework at a normal speed and set the right expectations for my team and manager OR I can slog my ass 14hr/day including weekends to meet the expectations of E4 at FB. To all my fellow Blinders I'd really appreciate your suggestions on this. YOE: 3 TC: 240k MPK office #facebook #google #microsoft #amazon
Relax and do it your way.
You still have to do the bootcamp if you’re pre-allocated? Is it just a formality? Seems like you can take it easy because you’re not competing for teams.
You go through 5 weeks of bootcamp if preallocated. We just skip the couple of weeks where the actual team matching happens
You are toast , now you know “talent” is important for high TC and gaming the interviews to get in will cause actual problems. Just kidding - work hard and smart , you will be fine
A lot of kids in boot camp are return interns and are going to out perform you for at least the first 6 months. That’s just the reality of it. Keep working at it. you’re not going to get fired
240k for an E4?
There are teams that write only C++. Especially in ArVr. Maybe find a c++ task?
Many of your fellows in bootcamp are returning interns. They have an idea of the stack. Don't worry go with the flow
Love the username
man, 240 in Menlo Park for this stress? I think you’re gonna be fine, but this is why I always ignore the FANG recruiter emails. The best play these days seems to be geo arbitrage on remote high-but-not-insane pay for a bigco with relaxed WLB. Side project to more than make up for the loss.
They hired you knowing what your skills were.
Still feels like I have a lot of ground to cover!
Lol as if answering a few leetcode questions shows skills. Not trying to discourage op, but nothing in the interview process really shows this.
