Share or no share ? What are the legal grey areas with sharing. Want to be transparent but also don’t want to give the image that I am willing to send around my offer letter to whoever asks. Competing offer comp is much much higher than the other offer
Meet in person, let him/her view, leave no trace.
You're under no obligation to share the details of another offer - just politely say something like "sorry, I'd prefer not to disclose it." I promise you they hear it from the majority of people, but figure there's no harm in asking.
As a recruiter, I typically ask this question and make it clear that it’s totally up to you if you want to answer it. It’s 100% up to you. That being said, 99% of the reason I ask the question is so I can do my best to beat that competing offer. I know it may not always feel that way, but your recruiter is truly on your side and wants to partner with you to make the best offer possible.
Thanks for sharing, but why require a documented proof? Some wouldn’t want to share offer since it’s some what confidential that competitor is offering
Totally fair. Some companies have a policy of not beating an offer unless they see the competitor’s offer letter. This is to prevent cases of someone just making up numbers and trying to use them for a better offer elsewhere. Honestly though, I don’t care a whole lot about the actual offer letter. Sure, I’d love to see it, but I really just care about the numbers. If you give the recruiter the numbers and they’re still asking for the offer letter, I’m somewhat confident that they’re continuing to ask for it to use as justification with the internal compensation teams to increase your offer.
Interesting. I want to show all my cards and make the point that I am not lying but I am also uncomfortable to share it around because I feel like it’s not right to show around these documents that are given in trust. Is there an in between ? Like a view only non downloadable option. I don’t know just doesn’t feel right to share these things but again I see where the recruiter is coming from - they want to be on the candidates side!
Big NO, never share the offer letter around.
Share offer letter with critical info censored.
Critical info like - phone numbers etc ?
Anything which can jeopardize your offer.
Just say numbers. No need to send offer letter of another company. Take screenshot of numbers and and send it as worst case. The reason they are asking is either their offer is low and want to make it competitive. Only do it if you are super interested in working for that company and make sure they can match. If not, no need just tell them verbally. I am recruiter and deal with this a lot. Most tech companies would not ask for it but could be wrong. If you have good relationship with recruiter, you can share. For most part they want to do good for you.
