Full disclaimer: it is not illegal to ask current salary where I live. But still owing to some info I have read here, I didnt wanna give away my current salary on the first screening call. I told the recruiter that I'm willing to talk more about it in the upcoming stages, she goes like "sorry I dont understand, you dont wanna tell your salary?", Me: "yes I'm not comfortable at this stage but once we find the fit I'll be willing to speak more on compensation." Her: "thank you for your time" hangs up It was just rude and I felt like being buried alive. What do you guys think, should have I given it away on the screening call? For my future screenings, should I tell them because I know they are gonna ask.

PwC recruiter was asking me to call her for the initial screening. About 5 minutes in, she said that she just got a text about a family emergency and needs to reschedule. She asked me to call her again next week. So weird. HR software is absolutely useless when recruiters lack general manners

I think you did fine. It's obviously impossible to say with certainty how anybody will react, so, I would treat this as an outlier and keep on going.
OP - no, no matter the company, city or job, if you don't want to share your current compensation, then no one can and should force you to do so. Also, this is an indicator of the general work culture of a company, and you don't want to work for a company or people that are aggressive and abusive of their power/influence (in this case to offer you a job or not)

Iâm a recruiter and I like to know salary expectations fairly early in the proceedings if I fee a candidate is going to go to final stages, but I usually ask just along the lines: âare there any salary expectations youâd like to make me aware of?â And I definitely think hanging up on a candidate is wildly unprofessional. You dodged a bullet, in my opinion.

I seriously thought the same, but I dont know the thought that I blew it just kept coming to my mind. Also do the companies keep any sort of check on how the recruiters are actually screening the candidates?
