When a job ID/req shows up on LinkedIn or other public site, how likely is it that it's actually still available and there's not already a narrow pool of candidates that you've already narrowed down because you were able to start recruiting before the req was posted? I'm particularly curious about Sales roles. Wanting to know if I'm better off waiting for recruiters to come to me (which they often do) or if just straight out applying works to get initial interview (not really had to do that.) For context, I'm a 10yrs experienced candidate in Enterprise and Data center outside sales. Thanks,
I’m not a recruiter but I can tell you that it does work.
It's worth applying. Often a company needs to fill several positions under 1 req so I wouldn't worry about them already having a narrow pool of candidates. Good luck!
Yup, these are called pooling reqs, one listing, multiple jobs. They are used a lot for positions we need a lot of. I used one with a bunch of other departments for our interns last cycle. Same with SDEs too.
You have to differentiate from the noise if you apply. Reach out to recruiter directly , LI message, old school mail if you really want it.
LI message is good advice, old school mail is a waste of time and a stamp if you're applying to any tech company. It prob won't be read. If it is, it make you look old school which won't be a positive.
We always have someone in mind when we post. We don’t always hire them, though, and that’s where the online process comes in.
Yup. MANY fang people I know, myself included, applied off the street
Recruiter here. Best bet is to reach out to someone at the company and ask to be referred. Referrals are treated with a much higher priority than online applications. That being said, both Google and Facebook have specialized teams that review every online application.
fwiw, I️ got my last two jobs from online posts. Companies are doing a much better job of having real postings. I took the approach recco’d above: reached out to colleague at company to get a sense of the job/role/org and then updated my info and had them send it to the recruiter/hiring mgr. I️ also submitted via the system to check every box. Best of luck!
Thanks folks. I'm pretty savvy on how this stuff goes for the most part. Been interviewing a lot, had an offer (great offer but didn't take for a couple reasons), and get at least 2 recruiters a week reach out to me. This job is one of the only companies I don't know anyone who works there so can't ask for a referral which I normally do.
