Hey Blinders, Last week, I had final onsite interview with Walmart ecommerce for Operations and Fulfilment Manager. For Base Pay Expectations: 140k Actual: 110k (+ additional Bonus = 10k) I am an MS 2020 grad student and am so confused whether to take this offer or not. Please Vote and let me know what uou think. Experience: 3 YOE in Ops 4 months Amazon Internship in the summer
How did you come up with your $140k “expectation?” In my experience, recruiters have a pretty good pulse on market rate for their positions.
I had an amazing interview. Based on Glass-door and people that I have talked to, the average pay for ops manager is about 135k-145k.
Did you negotiate their offer? You only have as much leverage as your ability to walk away from the offer (either competing offer or staying where you are). If you’ve negotiated and that’s the best they are willing to offer then it’s not a lowball, it’s your market rate according to them.
What is total comp? Base pay can changed based on how many stocks you get.
Lol 110k in Bentonville is good money. Decline so someone else can get the offer and be thankful.
UPDATE: I tried to negotiate and they increased the base pay by 7k to total compensation of 115k. I still think it is very low given how much I expected. Please let me know if you guys think that changes something OR I should try to negotiate again..
If they’ve already increased their offer, it’s not likely that they’ll increase it again without something changing (competing offer, etc) It sounds like you may have been slightly optimistic in your expectation and/or overestimated your performance in the interview and the impact it would have on your offer. As always, this is all about leverage. If they need people like you and can’t find them then you have leverage. If they can find someone else who’ll take $115K then it’s no skin off their back.
Bentonville has a low cost of living. Your $115k will go far there. The other salaries you’ve been seeing might be Bay Area positions.
OP are you leaving out the annual bonus in your thinking? There is no role in Bentonville pay scales that has only a 10K annual bonus on a 115K base. Your total comp is likely higher than you are letting on.
Hi, yes- There is a 10% annual bonus portion attached to my offer. (Plus relocation allowance) The big question I am stuck with is- Can I do better at other companies as I am not confident about moving to Bentoville..
Did the recruiter explain the annual equity? Broad pay scales at Walmart were posted here. I suspect your role is in the “70” class (noncoastal, technical). Job levels that typically reach to 100K are manager-class roles that usually come with 20% bonuses as well as annual equity grants. I’m confused how you could have the high (for Bentonville) base salary and just a 10% bonus.
Accept and use that offer to get other companies to budge
For an Ops Manager in Bentonville? The offer they gave you is insane. The typical salary for that role would be $60,000 - $90,000. Bentonville arkansas is incredibly cheap, and the fact that they’re giving you that role as an MS 2020 candidate? You’re incredibly lucky.
Thanks for the response. Is it normal not to get equity ? I negotiated my offer to 115k base (plus there is 10 percent bonus) No equity 😕
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: Base pay negotiated to 115k with a 10% bonus and NO EQUITY) Is it normal not to get equity at Walmart? My friend who is a Sr. merchandising manager got equity to his compensation..
Your friend is better than you so he got equity. You're not worth the equity.
Sorry, man. I am genuinely at a loss. Never heard of any job codes that have 10% annual bonus and no equity. You are in unfamiliar territory. If you find out the job code, please share it.

Do you really think Amazon is that bad
What location? $110k in Bay Area is very different from 110k in Texas.
Location is Bentoville!
I think there is a good bonus on top of base pay. FYI new grad SE makes around 75-80k base
