I fu*king hate companies that expects me to know everything about them. I had an onsite interview and two of the developers asked me for my favourite feature on their website? To be honest why do they expect me to know all that? I know what the company do but diving deep into the website fuck no I have other things to do.
It just shows how interested you are in them. I don’t know what role were you interviewing for, but for Product management type of roles, these type of questions are expected.
It’s for a dev role
Lazy and entitled won’t play so well in the recession
Asking about a favorite feature is hardly expecting one to know “everything” about a company. They weren’t asking corporate trivia. You conveyed to them that you don’t prepare or have a genuine interest in the product.
I get it OP. You can be interested in a company for reasons other than their product. You think 10,000 devs are passionate about google search?
This is not deep dive. This is like research 101 for a company you applied to and is expected unless you are a new grad.
It’s for an internship
That's unfortunate OP.
Other intern candidates did some basic research. I recently did some intern interviews. A few knew nothing about us. One pointed out two bugs I didn’t know about. Guess who is getting the internship. There is more to getting an internship than memorizing CS 101 algorithm trivia. You are selling a product (you), the buyer can ask whatever questions they want. A good sales person has answers.
Well I agree it’s bad for a candidate to know nothing about a company that they are interviewing with. I know what they do as a company but not specific features on their website and I’m not a big fan of that. Even if they offer me a position I won’t accept it
Edit: This is after they emphasis about knowing the features in their website.
If you are not interested in their products, why would you interview them?
So you me telling me the 40+ people love Facebook and use it all the time? GTFO
So you're telling me people at Blizzard don't play their shitty games? Checks out on why D3 sucked at launch and they don't put any QoL into it. Enjoy the finance Dept taking over your company!
I applied for their SE role once, and got an email asking me a bunch of questions. I didn’t pursue it any further because it was too much inquiry right off the bat. I would have responded if I was specifically targeting Redfin but I wasn’t. I guess they only want those who are.
The real question is why YOU wasted their time when you clearly barely have any interest in what they do or have built. The very things you would be working on if you were hired. Pro tip from an old fart: For your own sake and happiness find and apply to positions you actually give a shit about. Merry Christmas!
I do care about them and I want to work for them. I love the tech stack and the company in general
Then I’m not sure what your beef is with the question. What would you rather they’d asked to determine whether you actually cared about what they’re doing or had just stumbled in with decent grades and a sense of entitlement? Sounds like I’m being harsh but I’m truly perplexed...
Gee. Expecting you to use the product before you get a job. What a concept 😂
