Reference letters for PERM

Blinders, Many of you know about the ref letters needed for PERM, and those are needed from previous employers, especially past managers. Is there anyone else whose letter would work as well, if the manager is being an asshole and deliberately delaying or ignoring the request(s). Note: This isn't my current scenario, as I have already got an I140, but this could be my future scenario, as my current manager is being a dick to me, and I want to formally Lodge an HR complaint. Ofcourse doing that will burn Bridges, and I will probably have to seek another job as well, essentially having to redo the PERM process. Before going to war, I want to know how much I gotta lose.

Don’t go to war. It’s a small industry. It’ll come back to bite.

To make you feel better. You are not alone. My previous manager was also a dick and specifically said he would not get involved in any immigration related stuff. I was working like a dog for him for 2 years and never complaint. I asked a peer instead and it worked. Later on that dickhead checked with our common friends if I got my visa or left the US.

I have similar story. Got it from company HR. Petty minds

Symantec neshama OP Dec 4, 2019

Thanks folks. But seriously it has become unbearable. Favouritism and partiality. It is what some would call a hostile work env. And it is in one of the companies tagged to this post. That is the sad part. We except so much better from the gaints.

If you have i140 you still need reference letters?

Symantec neshama OP Dec 4, 2019

Yes, the next firm will have to redo LC. I am on EB2

CAMP Systems WCep08 Dec 5, 2019

Why do they have to redo the LC if you I140 is already approved? I140 is portable isn't it? Beyond a certain time period?

I think you can get self-attested letters from atleast 2 previous colleagues if your manager is unwilling.

Hi, I have similar issue. Manager unwilling to deal with immigration. Can co-worker need to give it on a company letterhead?

You can get two coworkers to sign the reference letter for you.

It does not need to be your mgr but maybe someone who worked directly with you and had a higher level. I got mine from my mentor (who was the coo) of the company because as you, my former mgr was too busy to help me out.

Some Americans just hate, absolutely hate immigrates who are “taking” their jobs. It is ridiculous to think they have control over our destiny! Anyway, ask some senior peers for references work as well.

I don’t think that would be the case of his manager though. People who think like that are definitely not hiring tech people otherwise they would notice that there is a shortage in the market.

My previous job wasn’t tech.

Hence I always make sure I have 2-3 bosses , mentors , peers , VPs from previous companies ( may be Indians or Americans or any other nationality specially if they understand the pain of US immigration) and get letters when needed from them

Symantec neshama OP Dec 4, 2019

How can you control the number of bosses you have?

Oracle aimlds Dec 4, 2019

I can’t but it happens with people leaving , going to different places - you can have a good relation with your bosse’s boss and get a letter from him / her
