YoE: 10 (2 in leadership) EDIT: Wow, what a showing! I wrote a follow up thread for this if you're curious about what happened with my search: https://www.teamblind.com/post/oXQhcVqb Thanks again for all your help folks! Hi all, It's that time of the year and I'm beginning to ramp up my interview process. Truth be told, I'm not sure if AWS culture (or the slice I was exposed to) was for me; I found that my org moved too slowly and bureaucratically and I'm used to moving more quickly and higher impact work. I'm looking for tech lead/staff engineer/potentially EM roles at hypergrowth startups and/or pre-ipo companies. I'm a full-stack engineer with a heavy bias towards the backend/systems. I've spent a lot of my career in the startup world before AWS, so I'm just as comfortable doing engineering in a hypergrowth startup environment as at a later stage. I've been on the ground floor of 2 $1B+ companies (seed stage for #1 -- health tech now $2b+, series A for #2 -- fintech now $4b+), and I absolutely love handling product engineering and scaling challenges there. I also have experience with engineering management, as I've done the 0-1 startup CTO thing fairly recently and built an org of 9 engineers across several teams. It was a lot of fun, but I think I prefer hypergrowth and late stage growth companies because I find it more fulfilling to focus on growth challenges rather than initial product market fit at this point. I have a slight preference to starting off in IC so that I can gauge and shape the IC engineering culture before I consider moving to management -- I've often found that this is the best way to ensure I'm most able to effectively serve my team with an accurate sense of what it's really like to be an engineer there. I'm based in the NYC metro area and don't plan on moving, but I am fully open to remote. I'm decent enough at leetcoding (did well enough to get into AWS I guess), but it's not really my cup of tea -- I prefer cultures that are anchored a bit more towards practical real world interviews based around system design. Here's a sampling of companies that fit the bill, although it's by no means exhaustive -- I'm very much open to any hypergrowth startup working on cool engineering challenges with traction. In particular, I love anything consumer FinTech! #roblox #anduril #airtable #chime #brex #coinbase #cloudkitchens #databricks #uipath #clubhouse #figma #dominodatalab #discord #plaid #klarna #stripe #hashicorp #rivian #scaleai #samsara #confluent #brex #datarobot #mural #notion #cloudkitchens #robinhood #offerup #vercel #instacart #doordash #bolt #calendly #cockroachlabs #convoy #current #figure #iterable #junipersquare #kong #retool #sonder

Here you go for a list to look at: https://blog.wealthfront.com/announcing-2021-career-launching-companies/ Criteria: $20m-300m revenue and 50%+ growth trajectory for next 3-4 years Skews more for midsize hyper growth than pre-ipo but worth a look
Great list. Definitely some solid contenders here that I'll add to my hashtag list in the post. Thanks for the reference!
Great list! Also looking to ve on the ground level on the accounting/financial reporting side (mature unicorns ready to go public this year or next). Please DM me if you can do referrals.
You have a very similar story to mine (but my success and growth were smaller , and I did the EM thing for couple of years and it wasn’t for me) also moving to Amazon and having the same feelings and then moving to DD. Feel free to touch base if you want to talk
Thanks so much! DM’d you

Hi BeeGrammer... can I dm you for cloudkitchen em roles

How is Cockroach labs? It’s a very cool product, but I’m wondering how much market they can actually reach and what outlook seems like. Most companies don’t scale their SQL db to the point of needing to shard.
We have been growing our revenue exponentially and I don’t foresee that stopping. We do hope to become a Snowflake of OLTP workloads. True, our current offering requires multiple dedicated nodes in order to reap the benefits, but I believe we can make CockroachDB the database of choice for many developers. For example, we recently opened up Free forever CockroachCloud offering, and we have more ideas how to make us a lot easier to use.

Wow I was looking for a list like this
My pleasure! If you're curious where I sourced this, outside of a couple extra ones that I added which I could think of, I got a ton from these lists: https://www.teamblind.com/post/PEriNDXM?cid=12435548 https://www.teamblind.com/post/No-leetcode-top-offer-550K-WAzdvpp4 If you're also on the hunt, I highly encourage you to check out the companies on these lists as well. Happy hunting and best of luck!
