Google used to have a cool innovative culture. Now it's known for firing people who speak out. No more TGIF, food is meh, lots of people getting shitty TCs. iOS still way better than Android. Oculus is doing way better than DayDream. AWS and Azure doing way better than GCP. Larry and Sergey had a great ride. Their mistakes were masked during the good times. Eric Schmidt got away with a lot of shit because the company was growing like crazy. Sundar is disciplined and will run the company like a business. Not the fun creative nerd house that it used to be. 20% time will no longer be a thing. People will be expected to make products that increase the bottom line. This is a good thing for the stock price. Totally awesome for Apple and FB, lots of top people will go there. When was the last time you were excited about something from Google?
Sundar has been CEO going on five years. Larry and Sergey haven’t been involved with Google closely in that time. You people are overestimating the significance of this event and IMO overestimating his potential.
When did you join Google? I was there in 2006
Then, stop talking about things you don’t know. I’m here for 10+ years if that matters.
Google has really good engineering and that's all. Like really really good. What I wanna know is where actually good engineers hang out? And I mean the only reason Sundar is CEO is because he doesn't look too cocky, which is like 99% of googlers.
Great products get created at Google and they die a dog’s death. I wonder why?
Promotions given for new launches, nothing given for sustaining projects.
Way to be super negative. Listing out all the products that has "better" competitor but failing to list out Google is best at like search, maps, chrome, YouTube, etc. Being fired... They deserved it. People working on more things that increase the bottom line... Well yeah, all other companies do it to a fault... This is a corporation after all. Not a playground. You are right that Google cool innovative culture is on its way down, but still one of the best cultures and still the most desired place to work at. Yes, it's sad it's not as good as before, but damn you seem mad.
I spent half my life there and I didn't like what it has become. More sad than mad
It's fair, but I do feel that Google was always a bit excessive and it wasn't sustainable. It was kind of like a fairytale that was bound to end.
Food is some of the best I’ve experienced...and comp of my friends is 20%-50% higher for the same level. You sound entitled
Hmm ... no! Have you tried FB cafes? LinkedIn? And about comp - that’s anecdotal evidence. I hired engineers at google and know what we offer. Check averages not a couple of people you know
