Recently went through an on-site round of amazon Alexa and after that recruiter emailed me that they won’t be moving forward. But didn’t mention about cooling period(6 months) and said that my application would be in system for other hiring managers and recruiters for consideration. Recruiter even mentioned in email that I can apply to other jobs at amazon, if interested. I am confused what wrong I did in interview as I was able to solve all the technical questions and even my system design round went well. Any insights? what does it mean that Amazon didn’t block me for 6 months. I was interviewing with AWS too. Done with AMCAT and phone round but after Alexa onsite review the recruiter said that they can’t consider me for an on-site round for the current position as of now and I can apply for other roles. Is it because of some feedback from bar raiser?
Something fell short on tech questions if they tell you can apply to other jobs. Sometimes when you feel you did well on technical questions you actually didn’t.
Thank you for feedback. Does it mean I did okay with leadership principles? Asking so that I can focus on right thing.
probably, but then again they may have decided that LP answers didn’t match job level or role. given that SDE role is not too demanding on LPs chances are high it’s something else.
Same thing happened to me. I got the bait and switch where the phone recruiter told me to study their “enterprise cloud application architecture” and that I was going to be quizzed over that. My phone interview didn’t even mention any of the docs I was told to study. The recruiter sent me the same canned bullshit. How am I suppose to bring my self up to amazon par if I’m not told where I need to improve. It’s as if thy want to keep perpetually wasting your time lol

You can never focus too much on LPs.
On top of judging you by technical skills they also look at traits that match their 11 leadership principal.
Got similar feedback from Alexa group. Recruiter said I’d be a good match for some other Amazon groups, but not for Alexa. I think Alexa is high pressure since Bezos has more oversight of it. I was too chill and it probably came across when I was trying to answer some of the leadership principles questions. They said my technical skills were great, but I think it’s less about technical skills and more about cultural fit.
How were the Alexa technical questions ?
Mostly backtracking and design algorithm for a game based on some inputs and system design was to build a recommendation system which he asked to scale.
What level where you interviewing for? I recently got an Alexa offer but one level below what I interviewed as / hopped for
Sde 2
Allowing you to interview for another role means that people generally thought you might cut it but you weren’t a fit for the role you interviewed for. This is a common outcome.
