Rejected from Atlassian

Yesterday 16 Comments

I got rejected from atlassian on the phone screen. The rejection came as a surprise since I thought the question wasn’t too difficult, and I had been prepping system design for a while.

Interviewer said recruiter would be reaching out with next steps soon, but then I got an email saying I was rejected the next day. Either I’m over estimating my performance, or I feel like the interviewer just might not have liked me or something.

It always seems like there’s a lot of randomness in the interview process, like interviews I felt really good about end up being ones I get rejected on, and interviews I felt went kind of poorly end up being surprisingly positive.

I don’t think it’s a communication issue, and usually I do pretty well on leetcode and design questions, so am I missing something? Or is the difference in passing an interview as simple as catching an interviewer in a good mood or bad mood?

There are always hits and misses. Don’t overanalyse. Just put your head down and keep grinding leetcode and system design.

    All the best!

Like you said there is certain level of randomness involved. I interviewed at a place that I liked the most and made it to the final round, only to be rejected. You never know what life will bring you to!

  • Don't be so down. It's just one hour of assessment. It doesn't say shit about you. Interviewing is hard.

Stay positive and move on, my friend. A few more rejections will make it easier to swallow new ones.

    Don't take it too seriously.

Don't overthink it. The interviewer, their mood, whether they like you, if they have a headache today, and basically anything else are absolutely part of the equation. Shouldn't be, but it is. 15 years from now you still won't "pass" every phone screen, and sometimes that will be your fault, and sometimes it won't.
