I passed HackerRank for Stripe's India opening. I got scheduled for a call with one of the Recruitment managers at Stripe. The questions asked on the call were very simple like why Stripe, what is my background, etc. And then I get a rejection mail saying that they synced with their team and my experience is not a good match to what they're looking for. I thought it did not matter to these companies what your background/experience is. They only judge you on how you perform at the interviews. Shouldn't I be given a fair chance for interview? What does Stripe look for in a candidate? YOE: 3
People frequently underestimate the importance of overcoming a strong accent and clear communication/speaking skills. Often they must be near flawless to compete.
Or have a hiring manager and interview panel that look like them.
Well this guy got rejected on the phone but yeah ppl hire themselves all the time. I do work with a ton of Indians and Asians though. Communication is often a difficult hurdle for some.
Clearly it's your communication. You don't fit what they want if you have no idea why you were rejected. Just move on dude. There are plenty of tech companies. Don't cry over spilled milk.
Why would background/experience not matter?
I do a fair amount of team screen phone interviews and strongly object to those saying having an accent equals poor communication and thus eliminates you from the process. I could care less about your accent. What is meaningful is - did you answer the question I asked with enough meaningful context vs a one-word answer or a five minute ramble? When asked to provide details about your experience, were you able to recall qualitative details? When speaking about your background, are you humble or are you arrogant? Do you speak ill of your past colleagues?
I love speaking I’ll of past colleagues. 😂
Samething happened to me. I am even working in the same domain from last 2 years at Amazon. Maybe they need more experienced candidates.
I got one scheduled for the position I applied in India. How was hacker rank question? What were the questions?
