Rejection 😢

I got referred for new grad to fb, vmware, and salesforce, but today got rejection emails without any interview and its been 2 weeks since I was referred to Uber so expecting the same. I went to a no name university because of no money because of which I only got summer internships at Rockwell collins and John Deere building web applications. I did 550 LC so that if I ever get an interview I will clear it. I also got 4.0 GPA, 3 publications and many more things. Am I doomed to never get decent interviews and work low tier jobs for the rest of my life😔?

No. You need to get more interview under your belt, lots of competition! You will slowly move up the interview chain... Phone, technical, onsite. Leetcode will get you through technicals, eventually. Then should study body language, eye contact, etc.. for onsites. BS but coding or resume alone doesn't cut it for engineering. In the same boat as you but getting onsites all the time now (then rejected, for now).

How do I make it to phone interviews?

Logitech yusgfgt Dec 11, 2019

Check out hired.com, wait till you move up the interview chain at those startups then apply at the big dawgs (fb, google, etc..) on their careers pages.

The hardest part is finding the first job. Try to apply to any company even if you think they are low tier. Once you are in, it will be much easier to move to a bigger company. Good luck, be patient and don't lose hope

All this. I went to a no name school. 2.6 GPA. Worked a shit job for a year, started working up the corporate ladder by jumping ship every 5 years there after and now 20 years later and I just signed with Google. To be fair and because I'm an old, there was no FAANG when I got started. And even if there was my current type of role wasn't available till more recently (infrastructure sales). All I'm saying is it's not end of game if you can't get top tier, once you get some experience people stop judging you by your school and more on your body of work

With my university, any big company seems out of reach

Keep trying bud, a rejection at this point really doesn’t mean anything. A rejection after an onsite stings quite a bit.

Google cloudy sky Dec 11, 2019

Just work somewhere that isn’t a top tier tech company for 2 or 3 years and try again. I don’t even have a degree; once you have ~3yoe the degree doesn’t even matter.

But I can crack any interview now, just can't get one :(

Then refer to my original comment on how to get one.

Hey, been through the same loop. No name uni, came from a different country. Hustled and found my way into my first job back when I was a senior. Keep at it, you’ll find a way. And as a pay it forward, message me your resume. I can refer you to my current company, as well as some of the places I’ve worked in the past. Don’t lose heart, there’s always something for everyone 💪🏻

You may need to hone your interviewing skills more. Your credentials, even as a new grad, is in addition to interviewing skills. I didnt graduate college and I havent had that stand in the way of my 10+ year tech career. You're not as doomed as you think.
