I will be relocating to seattle soon from India. Give me some pro tips. Not looking for work tips.
Me too, I will be moving to Redmond.
You are arriving when it is starting to get colder. If you are ok with the cold after reaching March, you are set.
Protip: don’t live in Redmond proper If you have a family, live in Bellevue or Kirkland. Maybe Ballard. If you’re young, live in Capitol Hill or Belltown. You don’t need a car. The public buses are good enough for our CFO. They’re good enough for you. And they’re free for MSFT employees. Find an apartment that doesn’t raise rents higher than market prices each year and that relies on you being too lazy to move. Many utilize this trick. It’s evil. Don’t get Comcast internet. Find a place with a provider other than Comcast. Take the cash lump sum not the relocation assistance. Don’t believe the lies. You need AC in Seattle, but it’s uncommon. You can get a window or portable unit though. Make sure to consider this when getting an apartment. We have discounts with every phone carrier. Open an account with first tech federal credit union at The Commons. They will help you get started building credit very quickly. Get a credit card through them too. Charge as much as possible to it, and pay in full each month. Opt for the Premera insurance. It’s way better especially in the worst case. Max the HSA and never withdraw if you can help it. There are plenty of homeless people in parts of Seattle but don’t worry they’re not a problem. They won’t confront you. It’s not dangerous. Just avoid them.
Why not Comcast? Is CenturyLink better?
Marginally, but yes
Consider Bellevue near the Crossroads Mall. Lots of Indian stores and restaurants

If you're young, live in Seattle or Bellevue
I was about to don't move to Seattle if you're single.
I agree with this suggestion. If you are young or single then live in Seattle city. It's much more fun than Redmond suburbs.
