Relocation to US or Germany

Hi blind community!

I am an Indian citizen currently working as a design engineer in Singapore for 5 years.

I was interviewed at Intel US last year for a similar role. I was verbally offered by the manager. But being an Indian I have only two choices of visa (H1B or L1) to get into US. After the initial verbal offer, the intel manager withdrew the offer citing that he did not get approval from management for working in remote for a year and apply for L1. And since H1B is also not reliable.

After the intel episode, I landed up on an offer for Infineon Germany and I have received the contract.

And now the Intel US manager reached out to me again and mentioned that he had got approval for remote work and he extended another verbal offer.

I’m really confused on what to do now.

I don’t know if I can trust the Intel manager again. But I feel that it will be a good option in-terms of the pay in US.

I have some of the below questions,

1) Would it be a good decision to trust the Intel manager again since he backed off once.

2) As of now, I have received only verbal offer. Would it be a good idea to ask the Intel manager to provide information on the terms of the offer citing that I have another parallel offer.

3) What about L1 visa? Would it have any constraints if I start to apply
after 12 months?

I hope the blind community can provide different perspectives!

Germany, it’s not even a question. US is an unstable Country with no working rights.

Want to live a stable and decent live? Actual feasible benefits? Cheap life style? And also full healthcare, unemployment and pension benefits provided by the state? Yeah, Germany.

US usually pays more, but so is the rent and cost of living.

Of course there are way more variables. Like lifestyle, culture and stuff. But I genuinely recommend giving a try to Germany.

Work life balance in usa is shit same like in India. Labor laws in Germany are great!! Once through your probation it’s very difficult for employer to layoff on a zoom call.

  • Can't you say yes to both ? With the time difference you can work both jobs

    • Haha, I am not sure if it is technically possible to work for two jobs in a foreign country apart from the country where you have citizenship. Your employment visa will be tied to the company you work for.

Also I have a 2yr old daughter and even working a single job is highly stressful. Lol.

    • Sure you can work two jobs but you need to have H1 with both employers. With H1 lottery fiasco that's a difficult thing but I know people who worked two jobs with two H1s. One full time , one part time back during 2000 to 2005 timeframe

If you have a family, go to Germany. If you wanna settle down abroad, go to Germany. US is good only if you're after money and you are willing to sacrifice your health, peace of mind, freedom, family... basically everything.
