135k TC with 3 YoE.

Work is great but not happy with TC at all. I am currently interviewing with Nvidia and Msft for hardware engineering roles. My wife has recently got a job offer in New York and her new company expects her to start in office by Jan 2021. Her TC will be ~$180k range and most jobs she can find are actually in NY.

How is Nvidia's remote work policy? Has it changed due to covid at all?

Same question for Microsoft.

Can i ask my recruiters about this? #remotework #nvidia #microsoft

In general, MSFT is very anti-WFH.

Exceptions exist, but team/manager/product dependent. They do seem to more than a little prefer folks come to their nice facilities regularly though.

I’m sure there are exceptions and as @noisyedge said, very dependent on team/manager/etc. My experience has been Satya and other VPs find it unproductive so the culture is against it.

  • I work in manufacturing engineering and no telling when we’ll officially be back in office, probably middle of next year at the earliest. I live 10 min from campus tho so i go in maybe once a week or less just because there’s hardware stuff that I need access to. manager recently moved over an hour from campus tho (with no traffic) so even when things do start back up I’m sure we’ll have more WFH flexibility. I see this happening with a lot of teams at MSFT, especially those where you don’t actually need to come into the office to mess with hardware or something

MSFT has a very nice office in Manhattan next to NYT. Never saw Nvidia's setup in the city their folks often came to clients. Both have great folks in New York so even if you eventually have to go in I think either would be a good experience. WFH aside do you have a feel for the teams at each org you're interviewing for to know how you feel about either yet?
