Reply to offer via phone or email

I have L7 offers from Google and FB and working on negotiating. Should the negotiations be done over email so there is a paper trail, or is it better to do so over the phone? I'm confident to speak over the phone, but not a fan of the fact that people tend to be vague and it is not direct. Update: this is related to the actual comp number negotiation after they have given their initial offers.

It's more awkward for me to negotiate on phone and so I usually choose email. So if you are confident though, phone call is always better

I just asked a question about L7 interviews and got one half assed response in a day. Not sure these guys are going to be any help. Would love to know how you went about setting up interviews at that level and timing them across both companies. I too am wondering how to properly go about forcing competition between two or three companies at that level.

What was your thread called? Check "cracking L6 at Uber Airbnb..." thread for info on interviews at these levels. I used to work at FB and have many friends at Google, which is how I got the interviews.

This thread doesn't show up in search... is this another mysterious tech lounge thread?

Btw I would negotiate over the phone. You only need the actual offers in writing.

I would choose email, because I can rehearse better.

The etiquette says that you negotiate on the phone or in person, and you confirm in email.

Oldfart above is spot on. Negotiation via phone, written confirmation via emails to document understanding. Always send recruiter an email to capture understanding, BTW, I have had recruiters pull funny shit (this one is looking at you Lyft, you scumballs).
