EDIT2: I think most of the people who are giving me the title of being toxic etc are having the same thoughts as I do. Without knowing and working with me they have formed an opinion based on the discussion we had in this post. Anyway this doesn’t bother me as that’s the same reason I am sceptical to work under a person who has lesser number of YOE in that field. I have got a pretty amazing network and have always got good feedback about my soft skills from my peers, juniors, seniors and MANAGERS. So these negative words don’t matter.

Also, Guys there is a reason that with a role there is a YOE tied to it and also there is a reasons levels exists in this world.
Anyway I am out of this poll now as it seems most of the people are not even willing to understand the rational behind this poll/discussion. I did get some good suggestions as well, thanks everyone.
For the people who are living in a bubble that anyone can report anyone, Grow up and take a look at life outside FAANGMULA.

EDIT: Based on people’s responses it feels the main point is being missed so trying to clarify:

I don’t mind reporting to a “Manager” even if he has just 1 year of experience in the industry because it’s a different ladder and skill set all together. This is not about AGE but about relevant experience in the domain I am working on.

I am skeptical about reporting to a person in the same technical ladder as mine having more than half the experience I have.

========

Hello People,

I recently received an offer from a company(can’t disclose name not a FAANGMULA or big IT name). The final interview was taken by the VP and I was under an impression that I would report to the VP. In the offer letter it was not mentioned whom I would report to. Today I came to know that I would be reporting to the lead who is almost 6 years junior to me in the industry.
I don’t want to sound like a jerk but I have had difficulties dealing with some less experienced leaders. I have already accepted the offer and now don’t feel like joining. What should I do ?

YOE: 12
Location: Vancouver
Current TC: 120K + 80k(RSU, bonus etc)
Current designation: Staff Engineer currently reporting to the director
New TC: 150k + 100k(RSU, bonus etc)

Thanks @Google, I am confused hence this poll, 1 part of me says the same as a lot of people are saying - “just do your work” , also I am currently reporting to the Director and have never reported to someone in a technical ladder having lesser experience, hence having these doubts.

OP doesn't mean if someone is elder or more experienced then you will be the right manager/director. Even with 20+ yrs experience, I have seen them behaving too kiddish. Your goal is to make your manager/team successful which in turn will make you successful.

Grow up. As you gain more experience, some people go senior IC route and others go manager route. You’re going to eventually report to someone younger than you.

I have both been that manager and been managed by that manager. I got promoted under that manager (from ic to lead to mgr), I sure didn’t / haven’t have that opportunity with more tenured / separated managers. Being that manager, I’ve never once been judged by my team(s) based on my age and have managed several more tenured than me but I’ve always prioritized their growth over mine - I can guide the ship but the team is the one doing the work and a good manager recognizes/appreciates that.

Thanks for the polite suggestion to think before I respond 🙄 you’re right, the young managers are the ones with the problem communicating and inflated ego.

Looking at your response it seems you are right. Soft skills doesn’t come with experience. My comment about “Think before you speak” was a reply to your kind and polite words “Grow up” and the reasoning you gave. You are again missing the point in here. I am not talking about age or tenure in the company but the YOE in that particular domain/vertical. Reporting to an inexperienced manager is a different story altogether.

Yoe means nothing. There are people with 2 yoe doing the job of people that normally have 8

@GioD25, that’s how the world works right ? You judge on what you see. Just by reading my comments you are judging my soft skills.
I have had bad experiences with immature leads in the past and hence this post.
