I want to request time from someone who is a product manager at Facebook. I have been in a product management role at T-Mobile for 5 years. Top performer. Top awards at T-Mobile. Promoted 3 times in last 6 years. I have software background. CS undergrad. I am looking for a change, and wanted to understand the road that leads there.
I don’t really want to talk to you irl but here’s the path: 1. Apply 2. Get a phone screen - to get to this point you probably need a very strong resume or an inside referral. Look for FB pms and convince one to refer you. I will not refer you. 3. Pass the phone screen - two types of interviews - product sense (here’s a vague problem, make the problem more specific and build a product to solve it) & execution (metrics/data/goal setting). 4. 3 on-site interviews - product sense & execution & leadership/drive (do you know how to get stuff done without pissing off other people) 5. Get offer The hardest part is getting a phone screen. The best way to do that is to befriend a fb pm who will refer you. Look for them at video conferences, mobile world congress, growth conferences. Glhf. Don’t take rejection personally the system does not give a fuck about you.
Do you dream of writing PRDs about which shade of blue to use, to optimize engagement with some random button? Getting promoted because you managed to increase the amount of Time humanity wastes on social media by %0.00001?
PMs at Facebook don't write PRDs while getting paid higher TC that folks at Google. Before joining FB I was at Google for 5 years, both great employers, but in most products at Google you are also optimizing for 0.01% push in some metric.
Oh god who cares if your TC is mildly higher cause your stock price has been appreciating more rapidly. That will end soon. I’m glad FB works for you, but your products really are time wasting garbage that pray on people.

So did Satya make Google dance?
Usually become founder/ceo > get acquired > become product manager at a top company
Wait really? I'd figure most get in just by applying normally...
Lol this is crazy. I became a pm at fb out of college with only internships.
