Research Scientist at FB Applied AI Research vs FAIR?

Is there any difference in the internal prestige of Research Scientist between these two orgs?#facebook

As far as I know getting into FAIR is extremely difficult, the rockstars in ML AI field with PhDs from top schools can join there. But, the research scientist position at Facebook is easier to get into compared to FAIR. You need to have good records for that too but, FAIR is the creme de la creme. I could be wrong though.

Non-FAIR research scientist is literally just SWE/MLE with PhD. The interview loop is literally the same except the behavioral round includes some discussions about your PhD research

It depends on whether you are motivated in more fundamental AI research with flexibility, or specific area with production goals.

Didn’t FAIR and Applied ML merge?

Did they really? Any confirmation on this? What does it mean exactly? If I have an offer to join Facebook as a machine learning engineer, does that mean I can choose to join AML/FAIR?

Nope, Applied ML became FAIAR, but they did not merge
