How does career progression of a Research scientist at Google, Fb, Apple look in terms of compensation?
Not as good as software engineer
Really?
Research scientists don't develop products. They create patents and research papers. There is no money in those.
Research Scientists in general get paid higher at FAANG.
Research scientists at FAANG are not comparable to SWE, much harder to get in. Even controlling for something basic like age and it’s doesn’t look good for RS.
I’m curios to know the TC comparison between SWE and RS for same level at same company
At Amazon for RS it’s about same. Applied Scientist is highest job paid family.
OP, which research field and do you have a PhD?
Considering that you'd likely have a PhD, you'd know if you're more impactful as an Engineer or RS. Unless you have stellar publications already you'll likely not get a great RS package if you can get hired as such. Overall I think both do equally great adjusting for age
