Resigned in 3 months. Had high TC and excellent WLB. AMA

I joined Dell EMC is July. I had 184K TC in Texas which is pretty high compared to Texas salaries. I had more than excellent WLB (in fact I didn't do any work in last 3 months). My manager thought very highly of me (Even though I don't know shit). I resigned today. To be honest I loved some aspects of Dell EMC but absolutely hated others. AMA.

Why?

EMC WeAreVenom OP Oct 10, 2018

There was absolutely no work. In 3 months all i did was to send emails answering questions by just googling them.

My Dell machine and Windows made me cry each time I used the Dell systems. I'm a long time Mac user and i feel enormous amount of frustration in using Dell laptops. Dell has deliberately tied all internal tools with IE. Which is super annoying and life wasting. The company culture hopelessly revolves around PPT and emails. Things which can be closed in seconds float around for days as nonsensical emails. They drag things for months. All work is PPT work.

Where are you headed? Amazon?

EMC WeAreVenom OP Oct 10, 2018

Yes. I have worked at startups in the past and am used to working 10 hours a day. I started having withdrawal symptoms and self esteem issues.

Microsoft SaltyChef Oct 10, 2018

Haha I hear ya.

Dell $&@17( Oct 10, 2018

OP is correct. Dell EMC employees have the highest per hourly rate ( they work 8-10 hrs per week) 3-4 times of FANG

Can confirm.

What is your new TC and level?

EMC WeAreVenom OP Oct 10, 2018

215K L6 Sr TPM. TC is low but I hope to learn something. I tried looking at many jobs in Midwest but they are all shit. Midwest is good for DBAs and Network Admins.

IBM BeKind12 Oct 10, 2018

Is it $215k in Austin?

You've been posting on blind that you have not done shit for the past 3 months. Good for you for making the move!

Thanks

Let me also say some good things. Dell EMC has one of the best benefits. Great medical insurance and is very caring for employees. It's a great place to work if you don't like to work but send emails and make presentations. Also if you are heavily into crappy Microsoft tech stack and infrastructure

I call BS - worst health insurance I had professionally this past year. People were good, company is a dumpster fire.

Dell MLNN Oct 13, 2018

Agree with everything posted here. Ppts all day long can get you to vp or svp. If you like work, this place is not for you . Bad for career growth . Slow and bureaucratic processes across the board. Big hit on self esteem and confidence as the right things are constantly punished and the wrong constantly awarded. Innovation stifled, yes manship greatly awarded.

EMC QaKs10 Oct 14, 2018

Lol. This is great. I thought it was just me. Iā€™ve got a pptx deck to complete this week. I canā€™t stand it any more. Iā€™d actually like to do something once in a while. Iā€™m so sick of presentations talking about nothing. After my deck is done, Iā€™m job hunting this week.

Dell MLNN Oct 14, 2018

Happy to see you say that youā€™re going to job hunt . My resume is so full of ā€œnothingā€ , I canā€™t even land an interview with anyone. Literally, people are refusing to even interview me. And donā€™t get me wrong, Iā€™ve moved up 4 levels at Dell in 9 years but thereā€™s nothing to show for it outside of The company. No ones going to hire for ā€œppt skillsā€ and ā€œpolitical correctnessā€. At least not at my pay grade . Lol.
