Resigning during Christmas week

I've accepted a job offer and waiting for my H1B transfer. The decision should come this week (premium processing and one week has passed already). Assuming it is an approval, I would have to give my 2 week notice. I have been here for around 3 years, and my lead is on vacation this week. The problem is that the manager at my new company wants me to join asap. I feel guilty in putting my team in a position where they can only use my last week for knowledge transfer. How do I go about this with my manager. Luckily, he is in office for a few days next week. Any advice will help me in making it less awkward. Thank you. Current TC: 115k New TC: 145k

Ask the new boss, showing that you’re thoughtful about your current employer shouldn’t hurt. Because how you treat your current boss may be taken as a signal of how you’ll treat your new boss.

This is very true. I explicitly told my new company that I'll need two weeks to properly transition things. They were happy to wait.

Does your lead know that you were unhappy or considering leaving? If not, and you like him/her, then don't be a dick and leave on the last week of the year when nobody is even really in the office. Tell your new employer you can start second or third week of Jan. If you really dislike your current manager and or team, and they dislike you, then yeah sure, go ahead and leave now.

I have a really good relationship with my manager, but a very rocky one with the lead. But yes, I definitely think I should tell the new employer that I have to wait for a week at the very least to resign.

If you would want to keep good relationship with current team/lead/manager asking for an additional week from the new manager isn't a big deal. I don't expect pushing by 1 week would piss off the new manager.

Not at all and explain new management that your manager is in vacation

I have seen people getting fired when managers are on vacation. It works both ways.
