I'm re-entering the job market and trying to break into a higher paying remote role. $180k+ base would be great, but I also want there to be a focus on personal growth opportunities, a focus on learning new skills or stipend to support this are a bonus but not required. Title wise I don't care but would prefer to stay in SW Engineering. I'm more focused on backend but front end coding is great as long as I'm not designing the entire site's design from scratch. I've had some interviews and several immediate denials. Are there items I should remove or change in my resume to have a better chance? I have a feeling that listing my old LLC is acting as a pitfall. I have another job with Suddenlink Media that falls before this that I could add on as a replacement but the focus there was on networking and IT with some programming in a MS Stack so not sure if it fits. Any help would be great.
The "technology director" + "owner" may be a turn-off (for some eng positions) since they are followed by a full-stack developer. It shows backwards progression, which obviously isn't true since they were smaller companies. HR and recruiters will perceive these titles differently. In my experience, they will assume you are seeking contract work or they might not view it as individual contributor/engineering experience. When I list my LLC below my full-time positions, I just write "software engineer" rather than "founder", "owner", "CEO", etc.
I'd leave of the LLC, and speak more to the actual development projects you did. Also apply to less valley companies, in my experience they're looking for a specific background.
Standardized. Are you British?
I’ve always been curious if I should date my employment yearly like you, or do mon/year - mon/year
I've done it both ways before, my previous resume (4 years ago) was more styled with a sidebar, this version came from an ATS friendly template and I just kept their formatting. I will say that every application I've filled out has asked form mon/year so that version is probably better.
i do month year
