Resume not getting picked up

I am a UK resident with a bachelor's in EEE and 10 years of hardware development experience. Currently, I am looking at opportunities in the USA but failing to receive any feedback on rejections as I believe it is not getting past the ATS even though match rate from jobscan is over 80% . Do hardware companies in the USA entertain applications from UK residents? Or, do they get shoved to the bottom of the barrel due to sponsorship requirements?

Would you need a visa to work in the US? If yes, would it be something other than H1B?

Dyson slothxhw OP Dec 28, 2019

I qualify for H1B only

Zulily VForV Dec 28, 2019

That’s why. Every year you need to enter the lottery to get H1B, and there’s only small chance your application will be selected. So unless you already have OPT from attending school in US, there’s no point in companies interviewing you.

Even international students trying to find jobs, while in the USA, seem to have less luck these days. The best Geo transfer stories I have heard are still internal transfers. Any chance your company has a branch over here?

Dyson slothxhw OP Dec 28, 2019

They don't have engineering roles over there.

JPMorgan Chase AbcdEFg7 Dec 28, 2019

If you require sponsorship, and have no previous relation with the company, then it's just a lot of extra work for them to hire you.

You may have a tough time right now getting an interview if you need a visa. There are plenty of people Who have green cards or are already citizens willing to take the job.

This.

Google Mauv02 Dec 28, 2019

I think in practice it is less about this and more about how oversubscribed the H1B lottery is.

Google Mauv02 Dec 28, 2019

Many companies won’t even talk to you if you need a H1B since your chance of winning the lottery is pretty bad. IANAL. Your best bet would be to find a job in the UK for a year with whatever company and then go for an L Visa with internal transfer. Canadians and Australians have it better.

Google Mauv02 Dec 28, 2019

Note, you don’t actually need a job in the UK for this as I understand it. Just has to be outside the US.

Dyson slothxhw OP Dec 28, 2019

so it seems... Wonder if the likes of Google, MS, Apple get themselves involved with H1B at all?

Most of the HW design roles are US based unfortunately.

Lockheed Martin BadJobs Dec 28, 2019

The number of available HW roles in the US is shit low in general. Couple that with the number of available qualified or already visa'd candidates and you're facing an up hill battle. Good luck! Just keep applying to every opening you find and eventually you'll find something.

If you don't have work authorization or you are not in the US, most likely they won't even consider you
