Hi all, I joined a firm a few months back in Bay area, and was given flight tickets, accommodation for 15 days, Uber reimbursement etc what one would typically expect for a relocation. Company policy says I have to return all this relocation reimbursement if I leave before 12 months. Is this really enforcable? I mean I didn't get any bonus as such.
I didn't have to
Thought it was a policy
Enforcement depends on the company and hr.. If you get a better job then take it if you are ready to obsorb the cost... If they had not given you the relocation cost you would have spend that money anyway to move.
Many companies will match relo refunds if you ask during comp negotiations. G did for me.
If you leave within 12 months a lot of companies will try to bill you for the relo costs per the agreement. I haven't found a company that's serious enough to send it to collections, though. Usually they just send a few dozen bills and annoy the shit out of you with some sort of vendor bill collector team and if you don't respond, they go away.
