How is the environment, culture at these places? From someone I heard it is a cut throat environment at google. At FB you work for 12 hrs everyday. I don't know if it is true or bullshit. I have C and Java background in current role. Picking up JavaScript and python on the side. It has been around 2-3 years since I interviewed. I am trying to minimize my chance of getting screwed over again. Career and compensation both are important as both are miserable right now. I am earning 105k with 2 years of experience. Bonus: When you leave do you tell manager or colleagues where you are going? Thanks to all my fellow blinders for helping each other out from the cruel engineering culture.
Why do you want to go to machine learning or AI if you donāt even know what they do in daily jobs? If you want to be successful, you do what you are good at, not what everyone says is cool. Unless you love it so you are willing to take a pay cut.
Yes, I know what it is. My question is redirected towards learning in depth. I am not going on what everyone is saying.
My colleague who was from google said itās super chill compared to here. You could coast by working 5 hours a day.
If you want to seriously pursue AI or ML, you will need some academic credentials in that area. Most good places would like a PhD and a masters with focus in ml or AI. Evaluate going to school maybe part time. Also be aware that a lot of people are jumping on to these fields and the competition is getting intense
