I come from Spain, where the job market is broken, and Apple picked me for their orchard in 2016.

I feel fortunate about how my career has gone so far, but I think taking calls has run its course. My problem is that I have a Tourism degree, which won’t really get me forward in the company. I’ve looked at different options to get more relevant skills like project management or data analysis.

What would be your recommendation for getting up to speed?

For the meme, TC = €44K (I feel a bit dizzy when I see folks unhappy that their bonus is smaller than my annual wage).

  • ok real advice, you have 2 problems:
    1) you need to leave europe
    2) your need to change jobs

The reason you need to leave europe before changing job is, i was offered €50K in NL 5 years ago as a SWE ,, so even if you go study, become SWE and stay in europe you will not much better. some exceptions are london and swiss but these are not part of europe anyway. also few companies in europe pay good.

see if you can relocate to USA and get a CS masters degree or enroll in a bootcamp

  • Going from customer service into other roles is difficult but don't let that stop you. Depending on what you want to do next career wise, it's ok to go back and study something different if you even want to change career path.

You are right to look at data analytics as an option though if you are looking to upskill in your current job. You would know from working on calls what the customer is always asking for and interested in but data is the only thing that upper management sees so if you know how to collect build and use data tables to show customer insights, it's an unrivalled skill. You also may learn cool coding languages like SQL on the way and these skills can take you off calls and into am Operations role if you like.

Alternatively, if you like talking to customers and have a knack for selling stuff, I'd transition into a sales role. Can increase your TC drastically if commision comp is good and you are good at it!
